The CME-CPD committee of EADV and UEMS
Some years ago, the term of “continuing professional development” (CPD) was introduced to underline the lifelong learning obligation of each doctor. CPD is used more and more frequently and is also being introduced in national laws on medical professions.
In 1958, UEMS (Union des Médecins Spécialistes, Union of Medical Specialists) was founded for the harmonisation and coordination of postgraduate training (PGT) and CME-CPD in Europe. Each European medical discipline is represented by its Section & Board with two delegates per country, including the countries of EU and EFTA as full members and some associate members (Azerbaijan, Croatia, Georgia, Israel and Turkey).
UEMS also provides a system for a consensus in accreditation through its EACCME (European Accreditation Council for CME). The accreditation unit is the ECMEC (European CME Credit). One hour of continuing educat ion (CME) is one ECMEC. Because it is considered that nobody would sit for eight hours or more per day in a lecture hall, the maximum of ECMECs per day is limited to 6, and to a maximum of 3 per half day.
The ECMEC is subsidiary to national credits. If a participant comes from a country where a maximum of credits is
not limited by the National Accreditation Authority (NAA), he or she may claim the total of hours attended. The NAA
can be contacted in case of any doubt.
EADV offers an individual CME-CPD participation through the barcode on participant badges which will be scanned
by hostesses as participants enter session rooms. A minimum of 25 minutes session attendance is required to qualify
for CME-CPD accreditation of that session and each medical specialist will be accredited only with the actual hours
spent in sessions as recorded by the scanning process. A speaker/session evaluation form for each session will be
available at the entrance(s) to each session room and should be completed and duly eposited at the end of each
lecture. The form is only available at the time of the session.
You are encouraged to pass by the CME-CPD Checkpoint located next to Registration if you have any questions. CME certificates will be available to you for a period of one year from the event (until 2010). It is your responsibility to download your certificate at www.eadvparis2008.com for processing with your national authority. For the download you will need to enter your registration number and family name both of which appear on your badge (please retain these numbers). Certificates will no longer be mailed. Hard copies are no longer available.
It is envisaged to give speakers access to their personal evaluation data via EADV through the Congress statistics.
These are generally available several months after the event. In addition, it is also envisaged to publish in the EADV News,
the top ten lists of speakers and topics.
The accreditation
- EADV has calculated the Paris programme as 24 hours.
- The National Accreditation Authority of the Société Française de Dermatologie (FMC) has accredited the Congress with 4 credits per half day and 8 credits per whole day.
- The European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) of UEMS has accredited the Congress with a total of 18 ECMEC (one hour = 1 ECMEC, max. of 3 ECMECs per half day, max of 6 ECMECs per full day). (see above)
- Please refer to the national CME authority in your country of practice for the exchange into national CME-CPD credits/points.
- EACCME credits (ECMECs) are recognised by the American Medical Association towards the Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA). To convert EACCME credit to AMA PRA category 1credit, please contact the AMA.
For further information please contact our Administrative Officer, Mrs. Judith Strasser, Judith@eadv.org, or Dr. Jean-Paul A Gabbud, Chairman CME-CPD Committee of EADV jgabbud@bluewin.ch
